diferentes síndromes marcadas por perturbações do desenvolvimento neurológico
com três características fundamentais, que podem manifestar-se em conjunto ou
isoladamente. São elas: dificuldade de comunicação por deficiência no domínio
da linguagem e no uso da imaginação para lidar com jogos simbólicos,
dificuldade de socialização e padrão de comportamento restritivo e repetitivo.</span></div>

comprometimento pode variar de muito. De maneira geral, os portadores são
voltados para si mesmos, não estabelecem contato visual com as pessoas nem com
o ambiente; conseguem falar, mas não usam a fala como ferramenta de
comunicação. Embora possam entender enunciados simples, têm dificuldade de
compreensão e apreendem apenas o sentido literal das palavras. Não compreendem metáforas
nem o duplo sentido. Nas formas mais graves, demonstram ausência completa de
qualquer contato interpessoal. São crianças isoladas, que não aprendem a falar,
não olham para as outras pessoas nos olhos, não retribuem sorrisos, repetem
movimentos estereotipados, sem muito significado ou ficam girando ao redor de
si mesmas e apresentam deficiência mental importante;</span></div>

de síndrome de Asperger) – os portadores apresentam as mesmas dificuldades dos
outros autistas, mas numa medida bem reduzida. São verbais e inteligentes. Tão
inteligentes que chegam a ser confundidos com gênios, porque são imbatíveis nas
áreas do conhecimento em que se especializam. Quanto menor a dificuldade de
interação social, mais eles conseguem levar vida próxima à normal.</span></div>

outra especificação</u> (DGD-SOE) – os portadores são considerados dentro do
espectro do autismo (dificuldade de comunicação e de interação social), mas os
sintomas não são suficientes para incluí-los em nenhuma das categorias
específicas do transtorno, o que torna o diagnóstico muito mais difícil.</span></div>
